Vacancy: Stears is hiring a JavaScript (ReactJS) & Python (Django) Web Developer

Stears Business is our business publication enabling curious readers to understand the economy. Launched in 2017, Stears Business is undergoing a major expansion of its analytical talent, newsroom, digital platforms, and journalistic ambitions. Role Overview

We need an experienced full stack web developer to join the Stears Business team. 

Our ideal candidate is experienced in Python Django, ReactJS and NodeJS. Experience in BackboneJS or VueJS is also a plus, though we are moving away from them. We assume that you have superb knowledge of git, git workflows, JavaScript, HTML and CSS and most importantly, are able to take the lead on projects with minimum oversight.

This is a full-time position based in Lagos.



In this role the successful candidate would be expected to:

  1. Deliver new features and upgrades to the Stears Business website
  2. Provide architectural solutions for the Stears Business stack
  3. Review code from the rest of the team
  4. Contribute to other software projects within the Stears ecosystem (You may be able to contribute to our other projects too depending on their feature pipelines), e.g. the Election Data Centre



Our successful applicant:

  • Must have experience with CSS, HTML, JavaScript & Python 
  • Must have experience with git and the terminal/command line
  • Should have some experience with ReactJS & NodeJS
  • Should have some experience with unit testing in JS or Python or both
  • Should have good communication skills and problem-solving ability

Additionally, the following would make you more attractive:

  • Experience in one or more of the following: (Firebase, VueJS, BackboneJS, Typescript, docker, kubernetes, nginx)
  • Superb knowledge in multiple front end frameworks (ReactJS, VueJS, Svelte, Angular)
