Vacancy: Stears Data is hiring a React & NodeJS Web Developer

Job Role

We need an experienced web developer to join us to build our flagship data platform. You will lead the development of this product using agile methodologies, and later help with expanding the developer and product team. The position works across multiple disciplines in the team and will get an opportunity to work with our researchers, economists and data professionals.

We are prototyping new ideas to meet internal and external requirements. Therefore your role and project will change quicker than you expect. The only constant is that you will be building software that empowers investors, researchers and professionals in their quest for accurate and accessible African financial data and intelligence.

Our ideal candidate is experienced in ReactJS, Typescript, NestJS, NodeJS, MongoDB & Elastic Search. As an experienced developer, we assume that you have superb knowledge of agile, git, git workflows, JavaScript, HTML and CSS and most importantly, are able to take the lead on projects with minimal oversight.

This is a full-time position based in Lagos.

Your role
 

  1. Design, prototype and architect software systems that work and meet our standards
  2. Deliver clean efficient software under a Kanban or Scrum like day-to-day flow
  3. Review code from the rest of the team
  4. Mentor junior developers (Review code, pair program, give advice)
  5. Maintain and upgrade existing projects, and transition them to best practices and higher standards

Job requirements
 

  • Must have experience with CSS, HTML & JS
  • Must have experience with ReactJS
  • Must have experience with NodeJS
  • Must have experience with git and the terminal/command line
  • Must have experience with unit & integration testing in JS (Jest or other)
  • Should have great communication skills – We need to understand each other
  • Should have good problem-solving ability – You propose better ideas when you feel instructions are subpar

Additionally, the following would make you more attractive:

  • Experience with some of the following: NestJS, GeoJSON file format, Jenkins, GitLab runners and pipelines, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, docker, and Microservices architecture; is not required but is a plus
  • Superb knowledge in multiple front end frameworks (ReactJS, VueJS, Svelte, Angular)
