Linguistics Researcher
Job Summary
The ideal candidate will have experience working in one of a number of languages (Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Pidgin) and has a deep understanding of the language morphology and syntax as well as logical and lexical semantics. The candidate will work in a research role in the field of natural language understanding.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Design linguistic frameworks and semantic representations
- Acquiring and curating language data
- Pre-processing language data including making corrections, word stemming, annotations, and building references
- Improve the research team’s ability to model the language and infer meaning and intent
- Work with the research team to provide linguistic expertise
- Evaluate natural language understanding systems, identify errors, and propose solutions
Skills & Qualifications
- A background in linguistics or a related field
- Be a native-speaker in the required language
- Be fluent in English
- Proficiency working with word processors and spreadsheets
- Experience working as a linguist in the technology industry is a bonus
- Experience working as a linguist in the software industry is a bonus
