The World Press Institute Fellowship 2025 attracts experienced journalists eager to grow as future leaders. This international fellowship allows journalists to engage with media think tanks, advocates, and professionals. Fellows will explore modern media business models and understand their application across national and local outlets. Beyond professional insights, participants will experience American culture, history, and societal dynamics while expanding their global networks. The WPI Fellowship program begins and concludes in Minneapolis, Minnesota, offering a rich cultural and educational experience. It gathers professional journalists from around the world on one platform, providing access to best practices, expertise, and reporting strategies. Fellows will develop skills in accuracy, fairness, and responsible reporting, enabling them to address contemporary media challenges effectively and contribute to peace and societal stability through impactful journalism.

Eligibility
- Have five or more years of full-time journalism experience in print, broadcast, or online media.
- Eligible roles include reporters, photojournalists, columnists, and producers.
- Supervisors qualify if they’ve worked at least five years directly in journalism.
- University journalism experience does not count towards the requirement.
- Those in public relations or non-media jobs are not eligible.
- Must be currently employed as a journalist outside the U.S.
- Must be fluent in spoken and written English.
- Show strong leadership potential.
Work Sample Requirements in General
- Work samples must be in English and should be published within the last two years.
- Must have a publication date.
- If not in English, must attach an English translation.
- Must be publicly accessible.
Work Sample Requirements for Print Journalists
- In the case of published work, writers and editors must submit the three work samples, reflecting their byline.
- Editors must submit the statement reflecting their job role in unpublished work samples.
- Photographers must submit a portfolio including 5 published work samples.
Work Sample Requirements for Broadcast Journalists
- Submission is to be limited to 15 minutes of programming.
- Links to work samples on YouTube, Dropbox, and broadcaster’s websites are acceptable.
- Must attach a synopsis of each work in English, indicating your role.
Work Sample Requirements for Online Journalists
- Submission is to be either limited to 15 minutes of programming or equivalent to three print articles.
- Share the link of your online work sample (if applicable) and highlight your role in each sample.
- Samples should indicate your role as a journalist with task ranging from gathering the data, producing the material, or editing it.
Application
- Students have to apply through the official website by creating an account.
- Once your account is registered, you need to fill out the application form.
- Ensure to submit the digitized photograph of yourself (plain background, 2.5 inches in height, at least 300 dots per inch, and jpg/jpeg/gif format).
- Submit three work samples, mentioning your name and email address.
- Complete your application form carefully and submit it.
