GHBN Summer School 2025 in South Africa

Global Health Bioethics Network Summer School 2025 is a small conference where current work being done will be presented, and new innovative topics in global health bioethics will be shared and discussed. During this summer research program, a workshop on skills training will be organised, which will focus on the training needs and interests of the participants. These skills will be helpful for participants in their future research careers.

The 14th edition of this program will include 3 days of meetings and discussions and 1 day of training sessions. The themes for this summer school for international students will be in the context of global health related to ethics around climate change and health, health justice and equity, ethics and mental health, and ethics and AI in health. This is an incredible opportunity for competitive individuals to attend a summer workshop in South Africa as all costs of the program will be covered by the host organisation.

Benefits

Two fully funded seats will be offered to the most competitive participants. The benefits will include:

  • The host organisation will cover the cost of round-trip flight to Cape Town, South Africa.
  • The cost of obtaining a visa to South Africa will be covered.
  • Meals will be provided.
  • Accommodation for 5 nights will be provided.
  • The cost of your travel insurance will be included.
  • Program will include the cost of airport transfers & incidentals relating to the trip.

Eligibility

  • Applicants should be early or mid-career level researchers in the field of global health bioethics.
  • Applicants must be from a Lower or middle-income country.
  • Applicants should be based in countries that are GHBN partners and collaborators.
  • Applicants should be available to attend this program in person.
  • This program is not offered online.

  • 1 letter from your current line manager/ supervisor to support your application.
  • CV
  • Proof of citizenship.
  • Passport
  • Any other relevant supporting documents.

Application

  • Applicants have to fill out the application form.
  • Attach the required documents.
  • Applications should be a maximum of 500 words.
  • Applicants should follow the outline in the form.
  • Applicants should prepare a personal motivation statement, an explanation of how this opportunity will be helpful for them, a short abstract that they will present at the Summer School, and a commitment that they will write a blog post about their experience at the GHBN Summer School on the website within 2 weeks of completing the program.
