Are you enthusiastic to perform innovative basic research in an international environment? The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) is offering Postdoctoral Fellowships in Austria. This fully funded fellowship program will provide a platform for conducting research beyond conventional scientific methods. Scholars will work together with their colleagues and leading scientific experts. Fellows will receive full-time employment contracts with competitive pay of a minimum of 72,100 Euros. They will also get full social security coverage and benefits.

The ISTA Fellow Program is a multidisciplinary program that will include a broad range of disciplines. The ISTA Postdoc fellowship is an incredible opportunity for talented researchers who have a background in Natural or Computer Sciences, Mathematics, or other related fields. All costs related to the fellowship program, including travel expenses, consumables, membership fees, conference fees, SSU costs, and external services expenses, will be covered by the host institute.

During these fellowships in Europe, scholars can avail of the facility of an on-site daycare centre for their children. The institute also offers German-language courses so that fellows can connect and communicate in the host country. ISTA research fellowship projects will be carried out in a supportive and unique environment. Fellows will use state-of-the-art scientific facilities and equipment in scientific computing, imaging and optics, (cryo-) electron microscopy, nano-fabrication, pre-clinical studies, a machine shop, and a NMR facility.

Eligibility

  • All research fields supported at ISTA will be eligible (see https://ist.ac.at/en/research).
  • At the date of the respective call deadline, applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) or anticipate completing their PhD degree before the start of their fellowship (no later than 15/06/2026). A fellowship contract will not be issued until a copy of the diploma/proof of successful defense is provided.
  • Researchers already employed at ISTA before September 1, 2025, are not eligible to apply.
