The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions are a researcher mobility programme which supports researchers at all stages of their careers, regardless of age and nationality. They are among Europe’s most competitive and prestigious awards, aimed at supporting the best and most promising scientists. There are four distinct Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions in the programme with a budget of €1 billion in 2020.
Variations of this scholarship
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: Innovative Training Networks
Bringing together universities, research institutes and other sectors from across the world to train researchers to doctorate level.
Benefits for the researcher include a monthly Stipend of €3,270, a Mobility Allowance of €600 and a Family Allowance of €500. The host organisation can also receive Research and Training Costs of €1,800 per researcher per month and Management and Indirect Costs of €1,200 per researcher per month. Duration: 3 – 36 months.
Applications open on 12 September 2019 and close on 15 January 2020.
Key eligibility criteria:
- You must be within the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of your research career and not have a doctoral degree.
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: Individual Fellowships
A great option if you are an experienced researcher looking to give your career a boost by working abroad.
Benefits for the researcher include a monthly Stipend of €4,880, a Mobility Allowance of €600 and a Family Allowance of €500. The host organisation can also receive Research, Training and Networking costs of €800 per month and Management and Indirect Costs of €500 per person per month. Duration: 2 – 3 years.
Applications open on 8 April 2020 and close on 10 September 2020.
Key eligibility criteria:
- Researchers who have completed a doctorate or at least 4 years of full-time research experience after their graduation
- Researchers who have generally not resided or carried out their main activity in the country of the host institution for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline.
- Applicants must be a national or long-term resident of a Member State or Associated Country.
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: Research and Innovation Staff Exchange
Funding short-term exchanges of personnel between academic, industrial and commercial organisations throughout the world.
Benefits for the researcher include a Top‐up Allowance to support travel, accommodation and subsistence costs during secondments of €2,100 per person per month. The host organisation can also receive Research and Training Costs of €1,800 per person month and Management and Indirect Costs of €700 per person month. Duration: Secondments of 1 – 12 months, within a maximum project duration of 4 years.
Applications open on 5 December 2019 and close on 29 April 2020.
Key eligibility criteria:
- Research staff of any nationality and at any career level – from PhD preparation to experienced researchers – can undertake a secondment. Staff members working in managerial, technical or administrative roles can also take part.
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: Co-funding of Regional, National and International Programmes
Providing organisations with additional financial support for their own researcher training and career development programmes.
Benefits: Up to €10 million. Duration: Up to 5 years.
Applications open on 8 April 2020 and close on 30 September 2020.
Key eligibility criteria:
- Each proposal should have one main participant, such as a government ministry, regional authority, funding agency, university, research organisation, enterprise.
- Experienced researchers and doctoral candidates apply directly to the relevant funding organisation through vacancies for co-funded programmes on Euraxess, a jobs portal for researchers
