Applications are invited from persons with a passion for creativity and design, for the Taipei International Design Award 2020, as a gesture in projecting the urban branding imagery of “Design Taipei; Dream Taipei”.
This is an open call for outstanding international designs and an effort to transform Taipei into a convergence platform for creative designs, in a bid to discover creative designs with business potentials. It is aimed at encouraging the practice of using social designs for advocacy, as a medium that can bring humans a better, more pleasant and convenient life.
Taipei International Design Award is organized by the Taipei City Government, in the ethos of “Design for Adaptive City”.
Background
Taipei City Government has been devoted to shaping Taipei into a city with design visions and has been encouraging designers to see design as a problem-solving tool, that is, to contemplate on the meaning of design, to solve problems inevitably faced by the general public and society, as well as promote a sustainable city.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
The award is intended for people all over the world who love creativity and design, with a passion for using design as a tool to solve society’s problems and are committed to providing a better, more pleasant and convenient life for humans.
Participants can contest individually or as a group (each group is limited to five members) with one member as main correspondent.
Entries must be original creations of the contestants completed after June 30, 2018.
Entries are divided into three (3) competing categories:
- Industrial Design: This category refers to the design of industrial products available for mass production, including general and digital applications, vehicle design, equipment and instrument design, life and household items design, telecommunications and home appliance product design and others.
- Visual Communication Design: This category includes digital graphic creation, identification design, poster design, packaging design and printing design.
- Public Space Design: This category concerns open spaces for public use, government buildings and some private buildings that can be shared openly.
WHAT DOES THE SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDE?
The total prize money of the competition is NT $3.8 million
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The organizers will evaluate entries based on:
- Applicability: Use of ecology-friendly materials, problem-solving impact, commercialization, etc
- Design creativity and originality
- Technicality: Sophistication and work functionality
- Artistry: Aesthetic performance of works
HOW TO APPLY
- All participants are expected to register online.
- Participants are expected to obtain a personal account by completing the registration information. The system will automatically send the “account confirmation notice” to the applicant’s email address.
- Participants can log in and upload the work files and materials before the registration deadline and agree to the “Intellectual Property Rights Declaration”, before submitting the registration.
- The system will automatically send a “Registration Success Notification” letter.
- Participants are advised to confirm the correctness of the e-mail address filled in, as the organizers will use the email address as main correspondence.
