The Yousriya Loza-Sawiris Scholarship is administered by Newton Education Services on behalf of the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development. The organization reputes well in preparing the students for a successful university experience. Since 2015, the organization has been working with the Sawiris Foundation in selecting the students to receive this full scholarship, keeping in view their previous work experience and academic excellence. In 2015, Newton was selected by the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development (SFSD) to manage this new scholarship, the Yousriya Loza Sawiris Scholarship (YLSS).

Eligibility

MDP Program Requirements:

  • You need a 4-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (in the US or abroad).
  • You must be able to speak and understand English well (TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo accepted).
  • It helps if you have already studied some math, statistics, and economics.
  • You’ll complete a 50-credit master’s program over 2 years, plus a 10-week summer field experience.
  • Minimum English test scores:
    • TOEFL: 79 overall, 21 in writing, 19 in reading
    • IELTS: 6.5 overall and in writing/reading
    • Duolingo: 115 overall and literacy sub-score 115
  • Open to Egyptian nationals living in Egypt (dual nationality does not get preference).
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a reputable institution in a related field.
  • Must meet the entry requirements for the MDP program.
  • Should have a strong academic and professional record.
  • Must show good communication and teamwork skills (like volunteer work, community service, or entrepreneurship).
  • Must not be able to pay for studies from personal funds.
  • At least 2 years of work experience in development is needed.
  • After graduation, you’ll need to work in the development sector in Egypt for at least 2 years in a row.

  • Copy of the National ID of the guarantor. The guarantor is the person who signs the contract with the accepted student. This person could be the candidate’s father, mother, sister, or brother.
  • An updated resume.
  • All undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) transcripts.
  • TOEFL/IELTS score.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • One recent personal photo.
  • HR letter from current employer, including salary/salary slip or a bank statement in case of unemployment.

Application

  • The candidates have to apply online for the scholarship.
  • The candidates have to apply to and be accepted into the Master of Development Practice (MDP) program at the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota, USA, independently from this scholarship application.
  • The candidates have to write a personal statement in the form of an essay that must not exceed more than 1000 words.
  • If someone is residing abroad, he or she must give a valid reason for staying abroad.
